Folkestone - days 1 and 2
From Bournemouth we headed to Folkestone via th M25- acccording to the Tomtom it was the fastest way. Probably would have been but as we were going via the M5, we decided to stop in and see aunty Joan on the way for a coffee break. Was nice to catch up with her again - we left a few more things there that we wont need till end of trip.
We made it to Folkestone around 3pm. When we arrived Mark was also there at uncle nobbys, and aunty cindys. We hung at home for a little while catching up, and then went to the local shopping center so that i could try and find us some decent jackets at decent prices. I had been a bit foolish in nz, and bought 8 $2 shop ponchos, thinking they would last us the trip. Mark and aunty Cindy took us to a cheap shop- not as cheap as the $2 shop but good quality. Dillon managed to find a suitable jacket within minutes, and expected everyone else to be able to do the same- but of course that wasnt going to happen with me and Dom there. But we did manage to get four jackets- similar to ones from Kathmandu for $250 Nz - not bad considering one of them would have cost more than that at home!
Aunty Cindy had been looking in the local paper to see what was on this weekend. In a nearby town there was going to be a big fireworks display on the seafront, along with some other activities. When we got there though it was cancelled, but a man suggested we went along to the rowing club, where they had a jazz band playing. Dillon thought that this was wonderful. So offwe all went (aunty Angie and Chris ahd joined us all for the evening too). Dillon was in his element, his face was beaming and glowing, with the jazz band - and the grants that he was drinking from both his sipper bottle, and the glasses that Uncle Nobby bought for him. Josh Mark and Chris didnt find the band quite as enjoyable and eventually went off to another pub together - with strict instructions not to separate after Shrewsbury. Dillon got more and more excited, and started making requests to the band to play songs for him. When it came time for the last song, he got up and danced with some others there. There is a video of him dancing on Uncle Nobbys facebook page.
After the clubs we went back home via Chinese takeaways. Yum it had been a long long time since i had eaten chinese in uk. Still tastes just as good. Before we went to bed we made plans to go to church at Canterbury Cathedral in the morning.
i woke up nice and early Sunday morning, all set for church at Canterbury. Didnt happen unfortunately as others slept in. had a relaxing morning chatting and catching up with the wahing. The seagulls here are entertaining - they land on the roof of the conservatory and then peck it once with their beaks. When this happens, aunty Cindy gets some cat biscuits and goes outside and feeds the gulls. Its amazing how they are trained- or how they have her trained. She does it, because they used to come inside the house and steal the biscuits from the cats bowl!
We had cereal for breakfast, but before lunchtime, josh dillon and dom discovered the left over chinese, and then by the time they had finished there was not much left over, but they enjoyed it. Uncle Nobby cooked a traditional Sunday roast lunch for us all. Uncle Tony and aunty Angie came over and we all sat down and ate together at the table. It was really nice, i forgot how we used to always have a Roast lunch on Sundays when i was growing up. We even had dessert too- yum. After lunch with sat and watched some of Ms Browns boys, and then we all headed out together to watch the Italian Job at a drive in movie. There has been a bit of a joke going on about gold bullion for the past few weeks so it was appropriate that we all went. Before the movie started there was other entertainment - pedal go-karts, giant connect four, swing ball, maize maze, animals etc etc. we had lots of fun playing on the stuff before the movie. The movie was great to, we were able to laugh at the movie, but also able to laugh at bits that reminded us of the joke...too funy :) we having a blast, and have a few more days here before we go to France.
