last two days in newcastle

 Last two day in newcastle - 7 & 8 August 2012.
After a long day in Edinburgh, we slept in the next day, and just had a nice day relaxing in Newcastle. We went to visit my cousin Annette, her partner Barry, and their little boy Casey. Casey was gorgeous, he nearly 5 and speaks with a thick Geordie accent. I had to listen really hard to understand what he was saying but we got there. He was so cute, all these little please and thank yous in a thick thick accent. He loved to chat and show us his toys. He pulled two little plastic pictures off of his ben 10 bike, put them in a bag and gave them to me as a gift. He built tents and had alsorts of fun. At one point he bought me his helicopter, and said it was broken - he followed this up by saying that i broke it, and asked me to buy him another one, sweet little monkey.
After visiting them i tried to navigate into the city to go to primark. Only problem was there was more than one street in Newcastle with the same name. So we got lost, and to make things worse the gas was approaching the red! Gas stations here are few and far between here compared to nz. Eventually i found a petrol station, but when i put the pump in the fuel tank, i didnt realise it wasnt in properly, so poured the petrol, and it poured out all over me and my clothes..argghhh... needless to say we gave up and went home.
We went and visited uncle alans mum, somewhere near newcastle. Uncle Alan was funy as and did the haaka there. He and aunty Shirley then encouraged Josh and Dillon to do the Haaka also, for Alans mum. They somewhat reluctantly but passionately did that. When we left we went to the Toby carvery for dinner- nice big roast dinners, and then we went for a walk along the quayside in town. The river Tyne is a bit like the River Thames, in that it has loads of bridges going across it. The Millenium bridge was cool. It s kind of shaped like an eyelid, and lights up in amazing colours. AS we walked around the city, you could evidence of the floods on Monday. There were signs up saying that places were closed due to flooding. Some building still had sandbags sitting at the doors, trying to protect buildings.
When we got home we planed on having a big day the following day - on the agenda was South Shields, North Shields (where my nan grew up), and winkle picking at Witley Bay.
Yesterday morning i got up nice and early, whilst the others were still sleeping, i went off to the nearest Primark, and managed to get there without getting lost - Hallelujah! I have decided that driving on motorways and in suburbs is fine - cities are not.
At Primark they had a big sale, so i grabbed some blouses for work at 3 quid each - nice. After my shopping spree we all headed off to SouthShields- stop 1 for the day. It was a lovely seaside, with all the fun of the fair and 2pm amusements. First we sat by the lake and had a picnic, then JOsh Dom and I went out on the lake on peddle boats - fun but hard work for the legs :o).
After that we headed over to the arcades, where we became stuck for a number of hours - trapped by the 2p machines - they were so much fun- and really hard to walk away from, but at 2p a turn, it didnt matter- we all spent a couple of quid each. Eventually we pried ourselves away from the machines, and went outside to the funfair. First ride was dom me and aunty Shirley. It looked pretty harmless- swings that go around a merry go round. haha - they were a bit more powerful than that, when you were up high as flying around, but it was fun. After that Dillon Josh and Aunty Shirley went on the scream machine. 0- 100mph in 8 seconds, it was like a big crane that hoisted them up as high as the crane could go, and then let them go, swinging them over 180 degrees through the air at high speeds. It was so funy seeing aunty Shirleys face. When she first saw the ride, she swore that she wouldnt go on it. But Josh and Dillon remembered that when she was in New Zealand all they had to do was call her a chicken, and she would do something! There were a few more rides, then we headed back to the 2p machines for another hour or so. Lots of fun.
We eventually managed to wriggle free of the arcades, and we went into the neares pub. They were selling curries and a pint for 4.99 so that was dinner for us. After the pub we walked down to the beach for a "paddle". It quickly became more than that, and UIncle Alan, JOsh and Dillon got soaked splashing around and having loads of fun. We headed for home after this, where the wet ones got changed out of their sopping wet clothes, and then we headed off to the Northumberland Piper, where my aunty Shirley usually works. Time for a few drinks, and the boys to play darts with Aunty Shirley and Uncle Alan. Josh Dillon and Dom discovered pork scratchings, and we had an awesome last day in Newcastle
